Happy 3rd Birthday, Rachael Dear!!

Here’s another late post.  My Goddaughter’s birthday is August 12 but as I said in my last post, it has been a little busier than usual.  So this is catch up for the 12th of August 2012.

Watching my munchkins grow, I now know the first and second birthdays aren’t something the kid actually knows what is going on.  By 3, they do understand it’s a special day and it’s all theirs.  Whether they remember it or not is a whole other problem.

Rach was all systems go and wanted to enjoy her day at Universal Studios Singapore.

I’m so proud of her because she got on the Transformers Ride too!!  She’s definitely growing up and it’s her first birthday that she actually knows what is going on.  Safe to say, she throughly enjoyed herself and I thoroughly enjoyed myself watching her enjoy the day :p  Also, I got to ride the Transformers Ride 3 times!!  The first time, all of us got on and the next two times were with my Transformers buddy, my nephew 🙂 He loved it as much as I did.  It’s such a well designed ride.  I can’t wait to go on it again!!

I actually don’t remember my birthdays before I was 7 so I don’t know if children remember theirs until they are about 5 or 6 but at 3, they can actually understand what the day is all about.  The best thing for us parents and pseudo parents is the giving of gifts and watching them light up 🙂

Now I know how children can get terribly spoilt.  We spoil them because it makes us so darn happy when they are happy :p but we want them to be better people more than we want to keep ourselves happy so we don’t do this too often.

Happy birthday my dearest Rachael!!  May all your birthdays be as fun as this one and may God shower you with His blessings 🙂  Love you so much, Little One!!

Hooked on Riding

Last weekend, I went out riding with a couple of friends who were trying it for the first time.  Suffice to say, they had fun 🙂  Wake boarding has  way with people.  Pulling you in till you think about it a lot more than you think about much else.  So here I am on a Tuesday night wondering if I could squeeze in a ride tomorrow morning before work.

This coming from someone who isn’t even doing simple stunts.  Yep, I go out and am quite happy just feeling the wind in my hair, smelling the sea breeze and being out of the water.  For now that seems more than enough for me.  My sister has warned me though.  She says I’ll get bored and sooner or later I’ll want to try something more.  I just may get adventurous one day and forget I’m going to be 40 in a couple of years time.  Or maybe that’s exactly why I’ll do a jump :p  40 is just a couple of years away and this may be the only chance I get to do it 🙂

Hmmm … maybe I could call Jim for the last ride of the day instead.  It’ll give me more time on the water.

Meanwhile, hope you’re having a wonderful Tuesday.  2 days down, 3 more to go.

Smash

It’s Glee for adults … actually if you ask me Glee isn’t meant for children but Smash is most definitely not for children, maybe not even for teens but it has the same fun singing element that I love love love about Glee.

Starring Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston (I like *clap clap*), it’s about the making-of a broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe.  Talk about all my favourite elements all in one show!!  Now if I could work on a project like that, I could be as happy as when I watch the show.  It makes me miss theatre but also shows me that producing anything that looks fun is nothing but hard work.  It’s also the thing I realise I like doing – producing.  That just means I’m a tad of a masochist … if it isn’t hard work, challenging and some what painful, I’m not into it :p

From the outside, it’s strange and people can’t understand why.  Quite honestly, I don’t too.  What I do know is that when you’re part of something that takes hard work to put together, you appreciate it so much more when it gets done.  I’ve had a few opportunities where I got lucky enough and its kinda like a drug.  When you’ve tasted it, you just want to taste it again 🙂

Watching Smash is my way of vicariously living my dreams.  One day 🙂 Maybe one day, I’ll get to do it all and my post will be complaining for hard it all is :p

I Still Don’t Want to Live in a Birdcage

I’m so so so amazed with this company Resource Furniture.  Truly transformers!!

Since my husband and I are planning for a 3 maybe 4 room flat, these furnitures (if we could actually afford them after the flat prices these days) would be so so so wonderful to have.

Yes, some days this is what I do when I daydream.  What our little apartment will look like?  I’ve always wanted a little apartment, maybe a apart of me always knew that the prices of homes will go up and I’m never one to be a slave to my house.

That said, I want one of those old 3 room flats where the rooms are decently sized.  Yes, transforming furniture aside, I’ve never been fond of birds and really, I’m not a fan of urban city real small apartment living just yet.

Siri Compatible

That’s me 🙂

This is yet another overdue post due to the lack in focus to blog, distraction from the very subject of this post and life in general.

On Oct 28, along with a couple of thousands of other people in Singapore I got aquatinted with SIRI.

It’s been three weeks now and all I have to say is that I love love love my iPhone 4S.  Bear in mind that I upgraded it from the iPhone 3GS so it is quite the improvement for me.  Siri?  Well … I’m not crazy about her and trust me, I have a hunch the feeling is mutal.  When I asked her if she loves me, she answered that she respects me O_o

I suspect we’ll grow on each other.  She seems to understand me more and my need to put on an accent lessens each day.

The iPhone is another example why I reckon Steve Jobs rocks.  It’s made both my parents download apps, play games, whatsapp … maybe they would have done it with an android (err … we all know where the android came from) but definitely not with the ease that they’ve taken to the iPhone.  The sci-fi world that I conjured up in my head, inspired by the TV, films and books that I was expose to as a child is slowly but surely becoming my reality.

I use to think that it was a shame I didn’t live during the industrial revolution where so many amazing technologies were achieved.  I take it all back, the digital revolution is mind blowing and I wouldn’t change for the world.  I’m right smack on the cusp of the non-digital and digital age.  Old enough to be able to understand and not take for granted the things that the younger generation deem as normal yet young enough for the concepts to be completely intuitive.

In my lifetime, I’ll be able to talk to my car, read or watch the news on the same device that may be as simple as a transparent sheet.  The world is changing and some days I forget how fast and how lucky I am to be a part of it all.

iPhone 5, I have my eye on you 😉

Post Phuket

Yet another overdue post that was written but was waiting for the pictures :p

I’m no longer a Phuket virgin and the first time was a little surreal, like most other first times, I guess.  Didn’t really feel like I was in Thailand because I didn’t get to eat my mango and sticky rice!!  Yes, tell me about it!!  Who goes to Thailand and doesn’t get to eat mango with sticky rice?  Me over the last weekend (Oct 15-16).

Other than that, I had no complaints.  We were at a lovely resort and barely left it.  It was great company and I’m looking forward to what we decide to do next year 🙂

So I can’t really comment on Phuket.  I think I’m still more inclined to Bali only because we’re more familiar with it.  The thing I always find strange about Thailand is this, for a land of Buddhist people, vegetarianism isn’t as common place as you would expect it.  Nonetheless, I don’t have any problems.  Actually being vegetarian nowadays really is quite easy and no one bats an eyelid any longer 🙂

I’m really lucky when it comes to friends.  People who try their darnest to be good people.  They aren’t many and those who are, are my friends 🙂  And that’s exactly what you need for a good getaway, good company.  Everything else pretty much falls into place.

Till next year!!

Phuket, Here I Come!!!

Someone was really surprised that as a Singaporean I’ve never been to Phuket.  Well, neither has my parents, so there :p  All that changes in a couple of days though coz come this weekend I’ll be off to Phuket, Thailand!!  Nope, my husband isn’t back and it isn’t a romantic getaway.  It’s with my beach bum crew – Zack, Miss Chan and Resh!! That just means it’ll be a very decadent weekend of eating, chillling, massages and a whole load of FUN FUN FUN!!

And if the water is as blue as this picture I got from the web, I’ll be a happy camper 🙂  Can’t wait to update from there.  It’s been slightly over a year since our last getaway in Bali so we’re so due for another beach getaway.

Well, at least I am coz my beach bum crew had a Bali getaway that I couldn’t be a part off in May >.<

In case you’re wondering, we’ll be putting up at the Westin Siran Bay Resort and Spa.  Did I mention there will be massages?  Oh yah baby, I’m so looking forward to this weekend 🙂

Working With My Hands

It’s no big secret, I’m not a girly girl.  If I never got into theatre and acting, I may never actually wear make up but I did and there’s a part of me that really enjoys looking pretty.  By and large though, I’m a tom boy at heart.  When my Mummy wanted to buy her first born baby girl dolls and dresses, I asked for cars and guns.  Everyone knows how much robots get me all excited.  Then going to an all girls school where we were imbibed with the thoughts that anything is possible.  I’d like to think I’m as handy with my hands as the next guy.  In fact, I like to think I’m better than most guys :p

With that, I’m sharing a secret … one that I won’t tell my Dad just yet.  I don’t think he’ll be reading this post any time soon but I bought a TV console and fixed it up even though my Daddy reckoned I shouldn’t :p  In fact, I fixed up three things in a span of an hour and forty minutes.  A laundry bin, a coat hanger and the TV console.

Strangely the toughest one to fix was the laundry bin on the left.  It’s a metal frame that I had to literally hammer together.  At 9 in the night, I wasn’t sure if my neighbours were going to be banging on my door from all that racket but bless their souls, no one actually complained about the 15minutes worth of metal clanking loudly against each other :p  The TV console was truly not as tough as I had expected and the coat hanger was as simple as a jigsaw puzzle.

In truth, when the faucet in my kitchen sink decided to give way, I was so tempted to fix it myself too.  Nooooo, I’m not crazy and trying to channel my inner Tim The Toolman Taylor just yet.  I’ll stick to the Ikea fix it type furnishing for now.

Till then the Kre-O Bumblebee will feed all my building needs 😉  Happy Children’s Day!!

P/S: I told my Daddy about me putting it altogether and let’s just say, he was duly impressed 🙂

Fare Ye’ Well Dear Telly

Needless to say, I get attached to things, people and situations.  I’m a true romantic who does get very sentimental.  It isn’t the trait I wear on my sleeve but one that I am now more comfortable with as I’ve gotten older.  So when our dear TV, Telly who has served us well in the last 20 years (yes, read ’em and weep, 20 whole years) decided that she’s off to TV heaven where the angels need to watch TV too, I was undeniably sad.  Took me a while to find her replacement and when I did, I couldn’t help but feel she’s got big shoes to fill.  Like they say, they just don’t build them like they use to.

Telly came into our lives when projection TV was the in thing.  So Telly 2 or T2 as I like to call her, is the LED/HD rage, nope, she isn’t a Smart TV with internet capabilities.  I reckon that we all have laptops, smart phones as it already is … I’m old school that way, I just want to watch TV on my TV.  So here’s T2 and let’s see if she manages to break dear ole’ Telly’s record.  I’ll have an update in 2031 🙂

Meanwhile, we’ll miss you Telly and thank you for the years of wonderful TV watching.  The living room truly isn’t the same without you.

P/S: Watching T2 makes me feel like I’ve gone for lasik :p  Is TV watching suppose to be this clear?  Poor Telly, we did work her way over her due date.

Help …

My name is Carlene and I’m a robo-holic.  After the trilogy on Saturday, I thought I’d get Transformers out of my system completely but no siree, I’m ready to admit I have a problem.

I came home and watched Transformers DVD with the commentary and am going through the special features.  I’m itching to get my Bumblebees out of storage, maybe even buying Optimus Prime Jet Fire or Sideswipe or Starscream and and and I’m now even thinking about model painting some of my spare Bumblebees.

I need a distraction now before I turn into a geek teenage boy :p
