Training For 10km

I don’t know what I was thinking when I registered for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon. I’m not even running the marathon, just the 10km and right now, I have to be honest and say I don’t even know if I’m going to be able to finish it :p Another 59days and my 33 year-old body will be put to the test. We’ll see if my training reaped any results.

I’m pretty clueless about running … but I keep thinking to myself it’s running!! In the last 33 years, I’ve ran off and on. Lately it’s even been a daily affair … needless to say, it’s usually just for the lunchtime shuttle that takes us to Holland Village. How hard can it be, right? Put on a pair of sneakers and pretend I’m being chased?

It’s hard. Very hard.

I started my first run at what I thought was a fair pace and was actually feeling pretty good about myself … then the pain started, small squeezing of the thigh muscles, the lungs feeling a tad strain, I look at my watch and painfully realised that I’ve been running for only FOUR MINUTES!!!

Yes, I did mention I was clueless already but I’ve come up with a plan 🙂 One to build enough stamina to last an hour and if that doesn’t cover 10km … … I’ll walk whatever is left. So far, I’m up to 20minutes of running, by this weekend I hoping to get to 25. Slow and easy is my motto. Though I’m slowing realising running is a mind thing as much as it is a physical thing. And my mind works off what’s playing on my shuffle. So far these have kept my feet pounding the pavement:-

What keeps you running? Coz I’m going to need more than that to last 10km :p And oh yah, I was thinking about my dear friends when I registered. Dec 7 will be for Zacky, May, Mich and Resh!!!
